Grant Kessler was excited to become an uncle — so excited that when he heard his sister Olivia was in the hospital about to give birth, he put on a suit to meet his new niece.

The Pickerington, Ohio-based teen put on a suit and tie because “first impressions matter,” as he told his family, and he wanted to show his respect to welcome Carter Ray, the new member of his family.
As Grant explains, he wanted his new niece to look back on pictures from the new day and realize just how valued she was from the very beginning.
“When Carter’s older, I wanted her to look back and look at those pictures of the day she was born and see the like, respect and attention she was getting that day,” Grant told NBC affiliate WCMH-TV. “I think me wearing the suit was a small part of that.”

Grant’s younger sister Iris thought her brother was just being funny, but her tweet of a photo taken of Grant in his suit quickly went viral.
Grant’s decision to dress up at the birth of his niece may be unusual — but celebrating the beginning of a loving, lifelong relationship never goes out of style.
