Melissa Ferdinandsen, from Fresno, Calif., has been a teacher for over 30 years. She’s also a fan of Ellen DeGeneres, even going so far as to emulate Ellen’s sense of fun in her classroom — she plays music in her classroom ever Friday and dances through the aisles with her kids.

Like other teachers, though, Melissa struggles to make ends meet on a relatively low salary. But that changed when she went on Ellen’s talk show, where Ellen read a letter Melissa wrote to her.
