Gina, who is in her mid-40s, suffers from a crippling genetic disorder that’s forced her to live blindfolded in her dark bedroom with headphones over her ears.
She’s been bedridden in her New Zealand home for over a decade, since sound and light affects her eyes, ears, larynx and joints.
“I live in enforced darkness and almost silence as sound and light cause further damage to my eyes and ears,” she added. “My muscles have wasted away leaving me painful pressure areas from head to toe.”
Gina can’t speak either — she communicates through the use of a touch alphabet system — but she still has something very important to say about the right to choose when and how she dies.
