Weddings are full of traditions, but modern couples are always looking to reinvent them, bringing in humor, wit and creativity.

Take the garter toss. It stems from an old superstition that owning a piece of the wedding dress would bring good luck. When this caused some at weddings to attack and rip at the bride’s dress, brides then began wearing specific items of clothing to be given out. Eventually the tradition evolved so that the groom removed the bride’s garter and tossed it to all the single men at the wedding.

Some say the practice is archaic, but couples are still employing the garter toss at their weddings — but often with a twist.
