Morbidly obese couple loses combined 300 pounds in just 1 year, but their method may surprise you.

Danny and Lexi Reed had reached their weights of 280 pounds and 482 pounds, respectively, when they decided they were done with obesity. They were often short of breath and considered pre-diabetic. They knew they needed to change.

#transformationtuesday We are always one decision away from a completely different life. At the beginning of 2016 I made a New Years resolution to lose the weight. Being almost 500lbs, no energy, not able to wear the clothes I wanted, and jeopardizing my health – I made the decision that enough was enough. I never imagined that I would change my life & my body so fast. I lost 246lbs since last year just by changing my eating habits, focusing on my goals daily, and refusing to give up. My hope is that by being so honest & open with my journey it will inspire others. I lived obese for so long, and tried countless times to lose weight but until my mind/lifestyle changed nothing ever worked. The life you want is out there waiting for you. Make the decision to change today! ❤ #weightloss #weightlossjourney #weightlosstransformation #fit #fitfam #fatgirlfedupsdietbet #fattofit #obesetobeast #noexcuses #motivation #fitnessmotivation #goals #workout #gym #grind #anytimefitness #diet #nutrition #mealprep #cardio #zumba #fitnessmotivation #fitness #strongnotskinny #health #fitspo #exercise #workout #plussize

Lexi started an Instagram account to chronicle their weight loss journey. Their first picture was right before they began moving into a more healthy lifestyle, accompanied by a heartfelt, vulnerable caption.

Gym round 2! “I was always terrified of breaking furniture when eating out, people would stare at us and it’s no real surprise as we weighed a combined 55 stone,” Lexi wrote. “We never ate vegetables and never tried to be healthy, everything we ate would either be fried or from a fast food restaurant.”

But Lexi and her husband began to make better choices. She began to exercise more, starting slowly but scaling up as she improved her strength, flexibility and endurance.

Remembering how far i've come tonight. Once upon a time one of my favorite instagram friends @beast_underneath challenged me to a side plank & at 400+lbs I did it. I didn't do a perfect plank by any means – but I was trying. Looking back i'm so happy that I decided to test my limits, try new things, amd change my life. Always push yourself & be proud of how far you've come during your journey. Your only limit is you. Also for those of you asking yes that is also my husband @dannyreed5 cheering me on even then! ❤ #weightloss #fit #fitness #fitspo #strong #fitspiration #fitspo #gym #anytimefitness #plussize #noexcuses #nodaysoff #cleaneating #cardio #plank #mealprep #weightlossjourney #transform #transformation #starttoday #provethemwrong #selflove #believe #inspire #motivation #fitnessmotivation #fattofit #obesetobeast #gymlife #progress #weightlosstransformation

She and Danny also began changing the way they eat. They began to make their own meals instead of going out to eat or eating takeout all the time, which made it easier to control portions and know exactly what was in their food. They found new ways of enjoying foods they loved, such as makign their own homemade pizza, which helped them from feeling deprived.

Meal prep is under way with the grill master @matthew_berry26 ! It's probably been about a month since I really hit meal prepping hard so this should help my goals this week! #weightloss #workout #fitfam #fit #fitness #fitspo #gym #gymtime #gymlife #motivationforfitness #obesetobeast #trainharderthanme #weights #cardio #weightlossjourney #weightlossjourney2016 #followmyweightlossjourney #inspiration #weightlossstruggle #healthy #workoutmotivation  #lift #squat #preworkout #mealprep #fightingobesity #fuckbeingfat #fattofit #fitgirlsguide #sundayfunday

They also shifted their lifestyle as a couple. Instead of their social life revolving around food or eating out, they began to embrace doing activities together as a twosome, such as hiking.

Sunday funday 3 mile hike with @dannyreed5! It's a beautiful day in Indiana so we hit up #turkeyrun. It always amazes me every time I go with how much more capable my body is. I'm able to climb the stairs without being so out of breath, or stopping, jump across rocks in the creek, run, and so many more things. So happy we are able to be a fit/active couple. #weightloss #weightlossjourney #fit #fitfam #cardio #fitcouple #swolemate #indiana #stairs #workout #exercise #extremeweightloss #fattofit #obesetobeast

All the small but consistent choices and the positive growth mindset have paid off as time passed. Between the two, the couple has lost significant amounts of weight — Lexi herself has lost about 236 pounds alone.

They are also a testament to the fact that there is no shortcut to health — it is all about making good choices and creating a lifestyle that supports good health.

Thursday night game faces. Quick 30 mins of cardio on the crossramp session with @dannyreed5. Haven't been in the gym since last Thursday with my other workouts! Felt good to be home. ❤ #weightloss #fitcouple #swolemate #fitfam #fit #fitspo #diet #gym #anytimefitness #plussize #rainbeaucurves @rainbeaucurves #weightlossjourney #love #fattofit #obesetobeast #workout #exercise #gymtime

More importantly, both have recognized that being healthy is a significant part of being happy, where we have enough energy to create the life we want — and enjoy the blessings we have.

Our hike to Garden of the Gods in Illinois was beautiful and adventurous. So many rocks were climbed and we had a chance to really test our strength. I'll admit it was scary a few times and dangerous. I had to climb a few rocks I wouldn't have been able to before and lift myself, jump gaps, and even climbed up a rock wall. I think I even surprised @dannyreed5 & @matthew_berry26 with what I was able to do today. It's amazing the things my body is now capable of. Youtube video coming soon & swipe to see me feeling like the little mermaid, lol! Where shall we go next? 💪 #weightloss #goals #fitfam #fit #fitness #gym #nature #hike #strongnotskinny #losingweight #rockclimbing #fearless #confident #obesetobeast #fattofit #gardenofthegods
