Guy hides camera in bucket of water to see who comes to drink, and result doesn’t disappoint.

When John Wells of the Field Lab in Terlingua, Texas, set up a camera at the bottom of a water bucket, he was just pursuing a simple idea for a video for the alternative energy laboratory.

What he captured was unexpectedly rich and soothing. A variety of creatures — ranging from some bees to a rabbit to a donkey — stopped by to take a drink, providing a unique window into the natural biodiversity of a sometimes tough climate.

“A burro just happened to come by in time to be included,” Wells wrote. “Ben went against the script and decided to just nudge the bucket. You can lead a steer to water but you can’t make him drink. Note: The swimming bees were rescued.”
