Afterglow by Tommaso Di Paola and Jack Webber

A photographer travels to the mountain lakes of Snowdonia to show the beauty of cold-water swimming.

Filmmakers Tommaso Di Paola and Jack Webber follow artist, photographer and outdoor swimmer Vivienne Rickman-Poole as she crosses the snowy landscape of Snowdonia to an isolated mountain lake.

Her passion is extreme cold-water swimming. And as she stands, shivering in the snow, she feels the warm afterglow on the inside.

“It’s that feeling of being enveloped in freshness,” she said. “It’s almost a craving — and that’s what you do it for.”

There’s a real clarity of thought in deep-water swimming, she added.

As she floats in a vast, dark body of water, surrounded by snowy mountains, it’s not hard to see the appeal of being so immersed in nature.
