Filmmaker Marc-Andre Girard tells the story of Lily, a pregnant mom who goes to the mall with her husband and 6-year-old daughter.
As she sits in the bathroom, another woman talks on the phone, complaining about the trivial problems of her life.
Suddenly, Lily realizes she's suffered a miscarriage.
When her husband and daughter arrive, she's a mess. But slowly, as a family, they pull together and cope with the tragedy and bid farewell to an unborn member of the family.
"12 Weeks" is a very personal story for Girard, having lived through two miscarriages.
"I can say that these are really painful events for a couple trying to make up a small family," he added. "It was after the birth of my daughter that I decided to write 12 Weeks and broach the subject."
