This thought-provoking animation about our impact on the world just might chill you to the bone.

CalArts student Josh Swallow tells the story of a little boy who is shipwrecked on a deserted island. Weak and scared, a lion takes pity on him and tells him all the animals are here to help him.

The lion instructs the boy to eat an ant and says it’ll give him the strength necessary to build a better boat to get back home. The boy does as he’s told and regains the energy to start chopping. But he soon grows frustrated — he doesn’t know how to put it together.

So the lion gives the boy an owl to eat, saying it’ll give him the wisdom to build the boat. He does as he’s told, but soon, he begins to panic.

The boy tells the lion that if his boat breaks, he may drown in the sea. So he asks if he can eat a dolphin to learn to swim. The lion hesitates, but agrees. As long as the boy makes it back home, he thinks.

Then, the lion gets sleepy and takes a nap.

Suddenly, the boy begins to eat everything in sight. When the lion wakes up, he’s horrified at what he sees.

The boy tells the lion he’s still scared and he needs the courage to leave the island. Fed up, the lion stomps on the boy. But it doesn’t kill him.

In a gruesome last scene, the boy rips the limps off the lion and eats him to finally gain the courage to sail back home.
