Supermarket removes all foreign food from shelves to make a point about racism, and here’s the result.

When customers of German supermarket Edeka walked into the Hamburg store, they were surprised to see row and row after row of empty shelves.

Customers were confused, even when they read mysterious signs around the store.

“This shelf is quite boring without variety,” read one, while another read, “So empty is a shelf without foreigners”

Edeka, as it turns out, decided to sell no “foreign” food that day to make a statement about racism and xenophobia. They sold no Greek olives, Italian pasta sauces, Spanish tomatoes — which includes many staples of people’s diets everywhere.

“Edeka stands for diversity, and we produce a wide range of food in our assortment, which is produced in the different regions of Germany,” said an Edeka spokesman. “But it is together with products from other countries that we create the unique diversity that our customers value.”

Talking about race is an inflammatory topic for many, but in this case, Edeka made a big statement without saying a word.
