Bandito

By Evan Ari Kelman | Drama
A young boy sneaks out to join his older brother on a highway truck heist.

Filmmaker Evan Ari Kelman tells the story of Jamie, a young boy who sneaks out to join his older brother Scotty on a semi-truck heist that will change his life.

Jamie takes his brother to an abandoned quarry to see a parked semi-truck and wonders if the driver is sleeping. As Jamie cleans his gun, Scotty leaves.

Kingsley tells Scotty about his night. He strikes out with a girl and the guy laughs, saying she turned him down the other night. He talks to Kingsley like they’re the same. When he goes to the bathroom, Kingsley pissed in his beer. When he came back, he told him, “This one’s on me.”

Jamie walks in and asks about the plan. Scotty says they’re going to wait it out. When Kingsley overhears about the truck, he’s interested. Scotty tries to talk Kingsley out of it, but Kingsley is ready. They’re going to clean out the truck tonight.

Kingsley says Jamie can go and tells Scotty to pack up. Scotty tells Jamie not to come — he doesn’t want him to be like them.

As they get ready to leave, Kingsley honks for Scotty. Jamie walks out and tells him he’s supposed to go with them. They take him along.

They meet up with some friends to discuss the plan. As night approaches, they begin.

Kingsley parks in the middle of the road. As the truck approaches, he lights a flare and yells for help. He tells the driver his engine is busted and he steps out to help push with him.

As the driver reaches for his gun, they jump out and tell him to freeze. Kingsley calls for backup and asks for the key to the back. The driver tricks Scotty into getting into the truck and pulls his gun on him. As they struggle on the ground, Kingsley walks up and shoots the driver.

They get the key to the back and find crates of animal feed. When they don’t find what they’re looking for they beat up the driver. Kingsley tells Scotty to kill the driver.

Kingsley brings Jamie over and tells him to find something. Jamie tells him there’s nothing there and they should leave. Scotty tells Jamie to to to the hill and radio the others.

Kingsley and Scotty set the truck in fire. As Jamie runs back, Kingsley is lying dead on the ground. Scotty has a knife in him. Jamie pulls it out and runs from the scene.
