The Return Address

By Abi Varghese | Romance
A young man plays cupid with customer in a photo studio. Then he meets a girl.

Filmmaker Abi Varghese tells the story of Aaron, a romantic boy who purposely sends customers the wrong portraits to give them a chance to fall in love.

Aaron sweeps the floor of Robin’s studio. Robin asks him to load film into the camera. Aaron is clumsy and gets yelled at instead.

A customer browses the photography on the wall. She loves one taken by Aaron. Robin doesn’t think it’s very good, but nonetheless, she thinks it’s beautiful.

As Aaron works in the darkroom, Robin gets frustrated at him again and sends him home early.

He rides his bike and stops a long the way to take pictures of the landscape. When he arrives home, he find his grandpa trying to open a package. Aaron says that’s not for him. His grandpa has dementia and repeats the same questions and stories. Aaron patiently listens and fills in the gaps of his stories.

Aaron tucks his gramdpa into bed and gets to work. He mixes and matches portraits — purposely sending the wrong ones to the wrong addresses. When customers get their packages, they’re surprised to see someone else’s portrait. With the correct address printed on the back of the print, the customers have a reason to give the photograph to the rightful owner — and meet up and chat.

As Aaron sends more mixed-up portraits, romances begin to bloom around town.

People begin to hear of the love stories and line up outside Robin’s studio.

One day, Jenny comes in with her dad. The photograph she wants isn’t on the wall. But Robin offers to take her photograph — she has the most beautiful eyes he’s ever seen. Aaron assists Robin with the light. He’s mesmerized by her beauty as he develops her portrait in the darkroom.

Aaron tries to take his own portrait. But Robin enters causing him to breaks up the camera. Robin is upset and tells Aaron to leave.

Aaron goes home to find the photographs sitting in a puddle of water. Jenny portrait is ruined. Her address on the back is smeared, too — Aaron can only read the street name. So he goes door-to-door asking neighbors if they know her. But nobody does. He gives up.

One day, a package arrives. Aaron is frustrated with his grandpa and takes the package to drop off to the rightful owner. As he rings the doorbell and leaves, Jenny opens the door with a smile on her face.
