An artist saw bullies playing in a field… and this thought-provoking animation is what he created.

Animator Paul Barritt brings to life a beautiful and brutal childhood memory and the violence of little boys and little men. Based upon a true story.

The inspiration is loosely-based around a semi-remembered event in Barritt’s early childhood.

“I was with a load of other slightly older kids and we came across these birds in a field. The other kids started to kick them and kill them,” he said.

That stayed with him and reemerged during a conversation one day. And he thought it seemed like a good idea for a film. Then, he developed it to deal with the wider issue of violence and war.

Barritt used pen and pencil, mixed media, paper cut-outs and After Effects.

The kids grow up at 8:09…
