Stuart is out on an awkward date with Kaylie, and he's acting weird. He's way too solicitous and very nervous.
Kaylie reassures him she's okay, and that's when Stuart drops a bomb: he's from the future, and he's trying to save her from an unpleasant future.
Oh, and he's the nurse at the nursing home where a future elderly Kaylie lives, and he's desperately in love with her.
This clever sci-fi twist on a romantic comedy that builds on well-timed direction by Ben Rock and nimble, truthful performances that sell the quirky, audacious premise. The writing, by A. Vincent Ularich, is witty and observant, milking comedy from the strange situation -- can a young man really be in love with a 98-year-old woman, and... is it a bit creepy?
But "Future Boyfriend" is ultimately sincere in looking at just what love and devotion really means -- even if you meet in the wrong space-time continuum.
