A Toronto transplant struggles with guilt, relationships and the life she left behind.
Julia makes her way through her new life in a new city. But even as she goes through the motions, she is flooded with reminders of a life she left unceremoniously behind her: family, children, another man.
Evocative, melancholy and elegantly photographed, this short drama, directed by Nickolas Duarte, doesn’t give out its specifics easily. But the spare sound design, skilled editing and a strong central performance all suffuse the film with a foreboding sense of shame and guilt.
The result is a rich flow of images, sounds and emotions that will haunt you, long after watching.
